Goodbye Honduras, Hello ???

So, as some of you may have heard, I am no longer going to Honduras. Due to a security incident in country, it was determined that the security situation was too unstable to send new volunteers. I am of course upset and in shock about the sudden change. I have been preparing for the last 5 months to leave for Honduras in February, and to have it suddenly change and be back up in the air. However, if the security situation really is this bad, it's best that we don't go and I appreciate the Peace Corps looking out for me and not putting me in a dangerous situation.

So what does that mean for me? I should be getting a call from Placement on Monday or Tuesday. I am not exactly sure what this will entail - they could issue me an invitation that same day, or it could be to let me know what the next steps are and to see what I am open to for regions, job placements, and departure dates. I will be sure to update when I have more information. Fingers crossed that it doesn't take as long to get an invite the second time around :)

  1. Oh so that's what was so urgent that they were trying to contact me about... I was really worrying! I'm very disappointed too, but I'm very glad that Peace Corps is so conscientious about safety. Good luck with your new placement!

  3. Hi Jenni,
I saw your post and thought, that's exactly what I'm saying to myself. Only difference, I've been in Honduras for close to a year. Then I get an email saying I have a few weeks to clear out. I guess this is what they were talking about when PC said we need to "be flexible". I hope you're equally satisfied with wherever you end up. And who knows, maybe I'll see you there...
In the meanwhile, hang in there. And my new-found wisdom: Live like there's no tomorrow (because sometimes there isn't).
